Valentine’s Day… It is coming!
The struggle with food allergies is very real for me this time of year. Even so, there is one year round necessity in my household: chocolate.
It does not matter what food allergies I may have, there will be chocolate consumed.
Chocolate is something that is a complete requirement, especially during Valentine’s Day. Be it chocolate covered strawberries (YUM) or Chocolate Covered Bacon (YUM YUM), chocolate is a must.
R can no longer just go buy any old box of chocolate from the store, but he does know the two chocolates I will always be delighted to receive and devour: Enjoy Life chocolate in the delicious chip varieties or Endangered Species 88% dark chocolate bar.
Hold on a second . . .
Alright, I needed to get myself one of these chocolate hearts. Perhaps it will inspire me to write better?
I wanted to be creative and write something cute and festive to celebrate this Hallmark holiday. Even if it’s an excuse to drink red wine, eat chocolate, and cuddle on the couch with that special someone. That is my kind of excuse, and I’ll take it.
Can you tell I’m not a huge holiday kind of girl from that previous paragraph?
As time goes by, I’ve become a little bit of a grinch. No Christmas tree two years in a row now. Is this happening because I’m getting old? (Don’t answer that, I’m not old.)
As a food blogger though, I feel it is my duty to make something with hearts.
I scoured the internet (aka Amazon) and found these super adorable heart molds. I purchased this along with my monthly supply of Enjoy Life chocolate chips and patiently awaited its arrival.
Even though I was slightly grinching this Valentine’s Day, I’ll be honest . . . totally made my day when I made these.
It had me thinking back to when I made Peanut Butter Blossom cookies, how I really wanted to make the cookie 100% dairy-free and gluten-free, but it was impossible to do so using traditional Hershey kisses.
My favorite chocolate chips came to the rescue!
I like guarantees, especially the guarantee that this product is not made in the same factory as my allergy enemies. I’ve learned the hard way which chocolates are a no-go for me because they are made in the same factory as my allergy enemies.
R now knows to stick with these two brands when getting me my much needed chocolate. Happy Wife, Happy Life? Well, this happy wife requires chocolate. Wife having chocolate means happy life.
R’s Advice: Eat a peanut butter heart blossom cookie with an additional chocolate heart. It ups the chocolate to cookie ratio.

Chocolate can be tricky when you have a food allergy! I’m lactose intolerant, so I have to stay away from milk chocolate. These chocolate hearts would work out nicely for me though 🙂
